Hi everyone, and welcome to our little place online!

We are Lloyd and Joe, better known as LJ—the inspiration behind the name LJ Homestead. This website is where we'll share our journey as we transform a small piece of Arizona desert into a thriving homestead, a peaceful retreat, and a place we can proudly call home.

Our future homestead is located in the beautiful state of Arizona, just north of the city of Douglas in Cochise County. What is now an open desert lot will soon become a small oasis featuring a tiny home, solar power, gardens, an orchard, beehives, chickens, and plenty of green space where both people and animals can enjoy the beauty of the Southwest.

While our future may be in Arizona, our roots run deep in Tennessee & New York.

Lloyd was born and raised in the great state of Tennessee and has always been drawn to the American West—the wide-open spaces, breathtaking sunsets, star-filled skies, rugged landscapes, and the peaceful pace of life.

Joe is a proud transplant Tennessean. Originally from Upstate New York, he later lived in South Carolina, where he met Lloyd in 2005. Not long after, their journey together brought them to Tennessee, where they have built a life together ever since.

Although we have different interests, we complement each other perfectly. Lloyd is the outdoor enthusiast and gardener of the family, always planning the next project, planting something new, or dreaming up ways to improve the homestead. Joe prefers indoor comforts but never passes up the opportunity to enjoy a good cup of coffee outdoors on a quiet Arizona morning or beneath a desert sunset.

Together, we love traveling, exploring new places, taking scenic drives, and hiking trails that lead to destinations unknown. We are especially excited about the adventures that await us in Arizona's mountains, deserts, canyons, and hidden backroads.

In 2024, our lives changed forever when we both lost our mothers just one week apart. With the passing our our dear mothers, yes just one week apart in 2024. A time that still affects us today. We do mis our moms each and everyday.

That season of loss gave us a new perspective on life and inspired us to pursue a dream we had talked about for years. We realized that life is precious, time is valuable, and sometimes the biggest growth comes from embracing change.

Arizona represents a fresh chapter for us—a place where we can slow down, reconnect with nature, build something meaningful with our own hands, and create a peaceful future together.

Before the adventures begin, there is plenty of work to do.

Our first goal is establishing LJ Homestead from the ground up. We are creating a space that will not only provide peace and fulfillment for us, but also a safe and enjoyable home for our beloved fur babies. We can't wait for the day they can safely roam, play, and explore their new surroundings—inside a secure fence, of course!

As the homestead grows, we will be sharing every step of the journey:

• Building and improving our tiny home
• Installing solar power and sustainable systems
• Creating garden beds and a greenhouse
• Planting an orchard
• Raising chickens
• Caring for bees and supporting pollinators
• Landscaping and creating beautiful green spaces
• Exploring Arizona and the surrounding Southwest

There will be successes, setbacks, lessons learned, and plenty of stories along the way—and we're excited to share them all with you.

LJ Homestead is a dream that is being built one project at a time.

Most importantly, thank you for your encouragement, support, and for taking the time to follow along. Knowing that others are cheering us on means more than words can express.

We hope you'll join us for the adventure as we head west, build our little oasis in the Arizona desert, and create a homestead filled with purpose, peace, and possibility.

Welcome to the LJ Homestead family.

Lloyd & Joe
